Frank Wells

Frank Wells, a Charleston native, whose mom still lives in his childhood home, graduated from Porter Gaud in 1982, and the College of Charleston in 1986. He moved to New York City and traded Bonds for Merrill Lynch for several years before attending UNC Chapel Hill, where he graduated with his MBA in 1992. Frank moved to Atlanta and did Financial Turnaround Consulting with Coopers and Lybrand, worked over a year for the 1996 Olympic Games and continued his consulting career with small and medium size businesses in the southeast. 18 years ago, in early 2007, Frank became the CEO for Health First Primary and Urgent Care, for a local ER Doctor. Frank grew the clinics from 1 to 4 locations, serving 150,000 patient visits per year and sold the clinics in late 2018. A year later, after his noncompete had passed, Frank established Holy City Med, Urgent and Primary Care, and opened his first two clinics in 2020, five years ago. Over the last 18 years, Frank and the leadership team have proven a model for guaranteed employee retention, high productivity and accelerated business growth, using a medical membership program for same-day access to Primary Care, and more, for employees and their families. Supporting local executives and their businesses is a passion that was born from Frank’s childhood of working in the family businesses, which included a Piggly Wiggly and Dairy Queen.

Having served our country as a US Naval Officer, I know what it takes to make things run with efficiency and precision. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in Business and Management from Webster University, and this training helps me apply an engineer’s problem-solving skills to the business world. For the past 34 years, I have been an entrepreneur, and from 1991 until 2021, I worked in field engineering, sales and management in the medical device industry. When I realized I was ready to combine my professional experience with a passion for coaching and mentoring, I founded The Growth Coach of the Lowcountry. Their approach resonates with me because it helps business owners and managers drive success while prioritizing balance in their lives.

I am certified in The Strategic Mindset© coaching process, which adheres to ethics standards outlined by the International Coaching Federation. I am also certified in administering and interpreting DISC assessments, which is a behavioral analysis tool helpful for unlocking human potential to create stronger teams, leaders, salespeople, and companies.

In addition to my professional work, I’m a volunteer mentor with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a certified SCORE Mentor, Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce membership committee, Northwestern University Global Ambassador, an Eagle Scout, a triathlete, and a former Boy Scout leader. My wife Beth and I have two college-aged children, Tanner and Jolie. As a family, we have hosted an international student through Rotary International Student Exchange, travelled across the US and in Europe and Central America, and hosted multiple church youth groups.

As a publisher, I dedicated 50 years to the community newspaper publishing industry, spending the entirety of my career with Evening Post Publishing, Inc., the parent company of the Post and Courier. I had the privilege of publishing several community newspapers throughout my career, including the Moultrie News, the Kingstree News, the Georgetown Times, The Catalyst, the Charleston Mercury, and South Strand News. My journey in journalism allowed me to connect deeply with the communities I served, fostering relationships with business owners, local leaders, and loyal readers.

The Moultrie News in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, was my final chapter in this rewarding career, where I relished the opportunity to tell the stories that mattered most to our community. A lifelong South Carolinian, I have called Mount Pleasant home for the past 23 years. Outside of work, my proudest accomplishment is being the mother of two wonderful grown daughters.

I remain passionate about the value of local journalism and the connections it builds within a community, and I cherish the countless friendships and memories made throughout my career.
