The MPCC is proud to offer a scholarship program, in memory of Mount Pleasant resident, Joe Brinson.  Throughout Joe’s thirty-plus year career, he played a vital role in numerous educational organizations throughout the Carolinas, including the Construction Education Foundation.  This scholarship program is intended to encourage and support students aspiring to a career in business.  Applications for these awards are requested in accordance with the information below.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PAST SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS!

Katelyn Romaine.  Katelyn has a current GPA of 4.784.  She is a member of she is a member of DECA and FCA.  She volunteers her time teaching children as East Cooper Baptist.  She received the Golden Warrior award, a Spirit Award and is a member of The National Honor Society.  Katelyn is going to be a Clemson Tiger where she plans to study chemical engineering and business.  Katelyn is receiving a $3000 scholarship.  Go Tigers!

Helena Jenkins.  Helena currently has a GPA of 3.901.  She participates in the Chorus, the HOSA club, the Key Club and the Ecology and Conservation Club.  She volunteers her time at The Mary B. Thomas Girls Youth Circle and the Autopsy Admin at MUSC.  Helena plans to study Forensic Science at Virginia Commonwealth University. Helena is receiving a $1000 scholarship.  Go Rams!

Sara Faulkner.  Sarah has a GPA of 5.178 on a 5.00 weighted scale. She is a member of the choir, The National Honors Society, the Beta club and the Junior League.  She volunteers her time eith the East Cooper Medical Center, Meals on Wheels and with several church groups.  A few accomplishments include the SAT Hall of Fame, The Golden Warrior Award and AP Scholars with Distinction.  Sarah plans to study Nursing at USC.  Sara is receiving a $1000 scholarship.  Go Gamecocks.

Dylan Thorp has a current GPA of 4.339.  She is the Vice President of the BETA club, a cheerleader for varsity football, varsity basketball, and a competitive cheerleader.   A few of her accomplishments include National Merrit semifinalist, the Golden Warrior Award and apparently every fitness award that has ever been created.  Dylan will be attending Clemson.  She is receiving a $1000 scholarship. Go Tigers!

Four scholarship awards will be presented for $2500.  They will be paid directly to the college or school upon confirmation of applicant’s acceptance or enrollment.

The MPCC Scholarship Committee will review the applications and decide the winners.  Recipients will be notified of their selection by May 11th, 2017 and will be recognized at the following Chamber meeting to be held on May 20th, 2017 at the Holiday Inn located at 250 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a high school senior residing in East Cooper
  2. Applicant must be enrolled in college at the time the scholarship is paid
  3. Applicant must get three (3) letters of recommendation
  4. Cumulative grade point average
  5. Involvement in extracurricular activities
  6. Involvement in community activities
  7. Work experience
  8. Financial need
  9. Mission of MPCC
  10. Other considerations noted in applicant’s letter

*Awards are subject to Chamber funds on hand and may fluctuate.
